About
Our Story
The initial idea for Live & Local came about while lying in bed one night. "How rad would it be to create the next Rolling Stone magazine?" Upon receiving some guidance, including some hard truths, I determined that I'd have a better chance at making any sort of impact by keeping this magazine local.
I did some research, and what I discovered was both shocking and depressing to me: there is no place for San Diegans to learn about what's happening in their city's music scene: an ever-present commodity, but one that is often hidden to the general public unless they know where to look. At best, you will find a comically long web page with seemingly every music venue in town listed along with their upcoming events, but what good are show dates without the backstory of the music makers themselves? Personally, the desire to go see a band increases ten-fold when I actually know who they are.
As a musician myself, I have an undeniable love and appreciation for music and the people who make it. This website is as much for the music makers as it is for the people who want to learn about them. The music industry has always been nearly impossible to break into, and nowadays, that success rate has dropped drastically still. It's critical for the little guys of the industry to have a platform that promotes growth outside of the people who are already aware of them. This will hopefully be that platform.
Use this website to learn about the San Diego music scene and you'll be supporting local musicians just by doing so. Thank you.
